This green city – full of culture and spectacular landscapes – is the portal to the Riviera Nayarit
The verdant town of Tepic – the capital of Nayarit state and entry to the Riviera Nayarit – is a town full of traditions, nestled in the Sierra Madre Occidental mountain range.
Tepic is the largest city in the state and has a remarkable geography with unforgettable landscapes; it also offers plenty of tourist attractions.
The city has a range of interesting places to visit. Like other Mexican cities, it has preserved its colonial central square, the Plaza de Armas, surrounded by the most important historical buildings such as the Catedral de la Purísima Concepción, the Palacio de Gobierno (Government House) and the Palacio Municipal (City Hall).
Ringed by the mountains of San Juan, La Cruz and the Sangangüey volcano, green throughout the year due to the area’s high humidity levels, Nayarit’s capital city is the best point from which to explore the Huichol communities who live in the Sierra Madre Occidental.
For visitors on a mission, Tepic is also a good launch pad for explorations down the Riviera Nayarit; it is just over 40 miles from San Blas, the port that lies at one end of this famous stretch of coastline that passes through legendary towns, beaches with hotels, luxury real estate developments, and rural communities who are eager to provide services to tourists passing through along this road.
